Replace Pre-1993 Garage Door Openers

Do you have an old garage door? If you have a garage door opener that was made before 1993, it may need to be replaced with a safer, more modern one.

Contact us today if you need to replace your old opener, or keep reading to learn more!

In the early 1990s, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) enacted into law new rules ensuring that all garage door openers manufactured after 1992 had external entrapment protection devices, such as infrared sensors or sensing edges, in addition to the internal contact reverse mechanism.

Although openers made before 1993 can be safe and reliable if installed, tested and maintained properly, many of them aren’t equipped with infrared sensors or other external entrapment protection devices and don’t meet today’s standard for garage door safety.

Overhead Door always strives to ensure the highest degree of safety and customer satisfaction, and for this reason, we believe that pre-1993 garage door openers should be replaced (rather than just repaired). Furthermore, we have stopped supporting the repair of pre-1993 openers, including technical service support and the sale of replacement parts. We believe this will provide homeowners with the latest safety technology.
