Garage Door Energy Efficiency

When it comes to insulation, most people think about their attic and walls, not the garage door. But insulated garage doors can help save you money and make your home more comfortable! Think about it this way—your garage probably isn’t insulated, and if it’s adjacent to your home, it’s likely that some of your heating and cooling is lost through the garage. This increases your energy costs. Installing an insulated, energy-efficient garage door is a good way to help reduce your energy costs.

Energy-Efficient Garage Doors

It starts with making sure you install an insulated garage door. Overhead Door offers many garage doors with insulation and high R-values (measurements of how effective insulation is):

Thermacore®

Our Thermacore® garage door is a sturdy, insulated steel door that is great for both homes and commercial buildings. The Thermacore® collection includes models with high R-values of up to 9.31, 12.76 and 17.5.

Steel

In addition to Thermacore® doors, we offer other steel doors in our Traditional Steel collection. It has doors with R-values of up to 7.4, and there are a couple models with higher R-values of 9.8. If you want a door with an even higher R-value, consider the models in our Carriage House Collection, which have R-values of 10. The custom steel garage doors in our Courtyard Collection® offer the highest R-value—12.76.

Wood

The flush panel garage doors in our Traditional Wood collection have polystyrene insulation, with an R-value of 4.75. We also offer insulated wood garage doors in our Signature® Carriage line. Most of the doors have an R-value of 4.75, and the 570 Series has doors with optional polystyrene insulation.

Fiberglass

The doors in our Impression Collection® have beautiful wood-grain fiberglass exteriors and durable steel construction. They have R-values of up to 7.6.

Vinyl

Our Durafirm Collection® vinyl-clad garage doors are also energy-efficient, with R-values of up to 11.75.
