Window & Insulation Tax Credits

Planning to replace your home’s windows and/or insulation this year—or have already done so? You may be eligible for a tax credit!

Many federal tax credits for home energy efficiency have been renewed. These tax credits are available for purchases made in 2016 and are also retroactive to purchases made in 2015.

Tax Credit Details

If you install new windows or insulation by December 31, 2016, you may be eligible for a tax credit—10% of the cost up to $500 or a specific amount from $50 – $300. It must be a retrofit/replacement project—new construction jobs do not apply.

Windows & Doors

There is no limit when it comes to style or material, but the windows and doors you install must be ENERGY STAR® qualified.

Typical bulk insulation products can qualify, such as:

  • Batts and rolls
  • Blown-in fiberglass
  • Rigid board
  • Expanding spray
  • Pour-in-place

Air sealing products can also qualify, as long as they come with a Manufacturers Certification Statement.
